TIPS FOR SPEEDY CLAIMS PROCESSING AND PAYMENT
If you believe you have suffered an Accident or Injury for which coverage is available, here are some useful tips for expediting payment of your claim:
- SKI AREA? If injured at a ski area, obtain a copy of the related Ski Patrol accident or incident report.
- FOREST SERVICE LAND? If injured and rescued/evacuated while on United States Forest Service (USFS) lands, obtain a copy of the related USFS search and rescue (SAR) report, or other such accident or incident report.
- AVALANCHE? If injured in an avalanche while on USFS lands, obtain a USFS short form avalanche report. Similar avalanche incident reports may be available from avalanche forecasting centers or law enforcement agencies.
- BOATING ACCIDENT? If injured in a paddle sport accident, complete and obtain a copy of any related boating accident report. Such reports may frequently be found on-line. Examples include:

- SHERIFF OR POLICE DEPARTMENT INVOLVEMENT? If injured and your evacuation/rescue was coordinated by a law enforcement agency, obtain a copy of any related search and rescue (SAR) or accident/incident report. Note that even volunteer rescue organizations usually coordinate with one or more law enforcement or governmental agencies that generate reports, which can be useful for claims purposes.
- GUIDED OR SUPERVISED ACTIVITY? If injured during a guided or supervised activity, obtain a copy of any available incident or claim report normally used by the guide or organization. If no such formal incident report is available, you may obtain a signed written statement from the guide or organization briefly describing the incident. The statement must include all relevant contact information.
- SELF EVACUATION? Whenever you self-evacuate (whenever you suffer an Accident or Injury that does not involve rescue, evacuation, or ambulance), disclose your injury to the relevant land manager as soon as reasonably possible. Thereafter, it is recommended that you obtain a signed written statement from the land manager briefly attesting to the accident and your injury.
- WERE YOU WITH SOMEONE WHEN INJURED? If reasonably possible, it is recommended that you obtain contact information from one or more witnesses. In the absence of an official report, a signed witness statement briefly describing the incident can provide valuable information for establishing your Proof of Loss.
